The Espaces Valléens Do you know it?

The Espaces Valléens program, an Alpine-wide initiative, makes it easier for public and private players in mountain areas to obtain subsidies from the European Union, the French government and the regional authorities, if they undertake to diversify their activities. The 2021-2027 program responds particularly to the challenges of adapting to climate change, developing sustainable tourism and promoting territorial cohesion.

The funding available under the scheme is as follows:

  • The French State via the CIMA Convention Interrégionale du Massif Alpin
  • The AURA Auvergne Rhône Alpes region through its tourism/mountain policy
  • Haute-Savoie department
  • European funds, in particular FEDER

Projects for sustainable and diversified tourism

The impacts of climate change, energy transition targets and changing customer behavior are presenting mountain regions with an unprecedented challenge.
In this context, the sustainable development of mountain regions and the diversification of tourism are essential.

In line with the ambition of the Communauté de Communes Pays d’Évian Vallée d’Abondance to make the ecological transition and sustainable development the guiding principles of its actions, the Leman Mountains Explore Intercommunal Tourist Office is building its tourism diversification strategy around slow tourism. It is within this framework of sustainability and authenticity that the territory has joined the Espaces Valléens program with an application submitted in June 2021.
The aim is to promote the area as a place to live, develop seasonal wings and diversify activities to meet new customer expectations.

The territory’s Espaces Valléens application is therefore structured around 5 key areas:

  • Governance and structuring of tools to create and animate the slow tourism destination
  • Enhancing natural and cultural tourism sites
  • Raising awareness of natural and cultural heritage preservation issues
  • Rethinking tourist mobility
  • Enhancing the quality and diversity of our accommodations

Projects such as heritage enhancement, soft sports tourism, environmental education, 4-season tourism, soft mobility or immersive educational activities are all meaningful projects that can be integrated into the approach.
