This sporty hike takes you over the imposing ridge of Mont Chauffé and the Ubine valley.
Mont Chauffé (2093 m) is a wild massif with remarkable landscapes and a Mediterranean type of biotope. It is home to a wide variety of environments, southern plants, rhododendron moors, rocky areas and scree or even lapiaz of rocks sculpted by erosion, sometimes sheltering real alpine gardens.
The departure is from Chevenne in La Chapelle d'Abondance.
You will reach the chalets of Mens (1588 m)...This sporty hike takes you over the imposing ridge of Mont Chauffé and the Ubine valley.

You will reach the chalets of Mens (1588 m) and then the Ubine pass on the Portes du Soleil walking tour. The rocky cliffs of Mont Chauffé dominate the surrounding mountain pastures.
You arrive at the hamlet of Ubine and its chapel, you will reach the col de la Plagne through pastures and alder forests.
At the pass, you will discover the southern side of Chauffé, passing through the Sauvage and crossing the Raille mountain pasture and its chalets. Pastoral life is still very present in the massif.
You will reach the start via Chevenne.
Marking details : Departmental markings called P.D.I.P.R. on beige metal panels with green lettering.
Tricky passages : Steep end of the route. Steep, rocky passages (handrail between La Raille and Chevenne).

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step0/ Departure point: Chevenne car park, La Chapelle d'Abondance.
1/ Cross the stone bridge on the left then take the forest track which leads you to the chalets of Mens (1588m). From there, turn left towards the Ubine pass.
2/ You are on the Portes du Soleil walking tour. In the hamlet of Ubine, after the chapel, take the path that goes up to the Plagne pass.
3/ At the pass, switch to the south side of Chauffé by the forest track which leads you to Sauvage. Continue along the track towards the chalets de la Raille, then Chevenne.
The last section of the route is steep.
