The edifice, under the patronage of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, was built in the 13th century near the Château de Féternes (1.5 km west of the center) and was part of the Abbey of Abondance.
As a parish church, it was replaced in 1855 by a new edifice, still dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption. The chapel stands on a square overlooking the Féternes lime tree, which was awarded France's "remarkable tree" label in 2000.
