Discover The Great Odyssey

La Grande Odyssée VVF, launched in January 2005, is Europe’s leading mushing event. It is the most demanding stage competition in an exceptional alpine environment.

This year, more than 65 international mushers and their 600 top-level dog-athletes will take part in this 400 km race with 12,000 m of positive ascent, offering magnificent views over the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The event attracts over 50,000 spectators each year, spread across 20 resorts, towns and festive villages in the region, including Bernex and La Chapelle d’Abondance.

The big news

Once again, all the conditions were in place to make this 20th edition a success. The Grande Odyssée VVF family, the entire staff, the KCIOP team and the close cooperation of the ski slopes and ski lifts, local authorities and tourist offices, as well as all our partners, all worked together to ensure the success of this unique race, year after year. We look forward to seeing you next year, from January 11 to 23, 2025.

Monday January 15: Chapelle d'Abondance

The Grande Odyssée 2024 took place on January 15 at La Chapelle d’Abondance, in a spectacular alpine setting. On Monday January 15, the 13-km event with 460 m of ascent and descent offered breathtaking scenery.

With numerous spectators from all over the Chablais region, La Grande Odyssée 2024 in La Chapelle d’Abondance was an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Alps.

Tuesday, January 16: Bernex

The Grande Odyssée 2024 in Bernex was a captivating experience in the heart of the Alps. This prestigious mushing event attracted over 65 internationally renowned mushers accompanied by their 600 athlete dogs. The events took place on a demanding 4 km dry-climb course, with a positive vertical drop of 550 meters, offering unique challenges to the competitors.

The breathtaking view of the Dent d’Oche added a spectacular dimension to the day’s competition.
