At the heart of this history are the Abondance cows, a hardy breed adapted to the mountain environment. These cows produce rich, flavorful milk, which has been used to make Abondance cheese for generations.
Abondance cheese is made from the milk of Abondance cows raised in the lush green pastures of the surrounding mountains. Its smooth, golden rind encloses a soft, creamy paste that melts deliciously in the mouth. This cheese is perfect as a Berthoud or simply on good bread with charcuterie.
The Maison du Fromage Abondance (Abondance Cheese House) brings together three sites in one structure: an Abondance cheese maturing cooperative and interpretation center, and a store selling local products.
