A mountain bike experience on the slopes

Take advantage of the gigantic Portes du Soleil ski area.

While the slopes of the Portes du Soleil are reserved for downhill skiing in winter, they become a huge playground for mountain bikers in summer!

Enjoy the Portes du Soleil’s 12 resorts, 600 kilometers of trails and 19 mountain bike lifts. Depending on your preferences, you can venture into the heart of the fir forests, hurtling down wooded trails on winding single tracks, or rub shoulders with the beautiful herds in the alpine pastures on accessible trails and wide paths. And don’t forget the ski lifts for easy access to the circuits!

The Pays d’Evian – Plateau de Gavot FFC site is fully certified by the French Cycling Federation, a guarantee of the quality of the routes, markings and maintenance of the network! Among the many starting points, the 5 main spots (Bernex and Thollon tourist information offices, Col de la Creusaz in Bernex, Lac de la Beunaz and Collège du Pays de Gavot in Saint-Paul en Chablais) offer large-format welcome signs and, for the first two, very useful related services (bike wash, repair tools, etc.).

As for the terrain, you’ll appreciate the undulating landscape and moderate gradients, with some more challenging and technical itineraries in Bernex and Thollon.

Preparing your mountain bike outing

Where to find mountain bike routes and circuits?
The Pays d’Évian – Vallée d’Abondance region is blessed with a number of marked trails that allow you to enjoy the mountain biking experience to the full.
Numerous routes and circuits are also available in the Portes du Soleil area.
Where to rent your equipment?

What should I do before setting off on my mountain bike outing?
- Helmets are strongly recommended and compulsory for children under 12.
- Keep your speed under control. You may share the trail with other hikers: please be careful.
What do I need to know about flora and fauna?
- Don’t pick flowers, fruit or mushrooms to preserve local biodiversity.
- Stay away from animals. Neither cows nor patous, who may feel attacked.
What should I do with my waste?
Keep them with you, in a well-sealed bag or pocket, and dispose of them in a garbage can at the end of your outing.

Two routes that are almost entirely downhill! The first starts from Thollon and offers 700 m of downhill over 12 km to Evian, while the second starts from Bernex and covers 31 km and 800 m of downhill to the Cité de l’Eau.

If you prefer, you can use the shuttle bus to take your bike to the starting point.

Bernex has set up a Bikepark (supervised by patrollers) on a 400 m gradient. You’ll meet many mountain bike champions who come to train!
