Gateway to the Alps
The Chablais region (Latin for “caput iaci” or “caput lago”, meaning “the head of the lake”) stretches from the north to the southern shores of Lake Geneva, and is divided in altitude into several valleys. The Pre-Alps are mountain massifs that form the edge of the central Alps. The Pays d’Evian Vallée d’Abondance, on the northern edge of the Alpine arc, abounds in exceptional natural resources. A diversity of species thrives in the territory’s various ecosystems, from the Dranse delta and coastal reedbeds to Alpine peaks, lakes, meadows, forests and wetlands. The variety of these environments means that there are so many areas to protect, and preserving the landscape is one of Leman Mountains Explore’s core concerns.
