Plateau side a green setting between lake and mountains

Halfway between Lake Geneva and the Chablais Pre-Alps, the Pays de Gavot is a green setting between water and mountains.

Welcome to the Gavot plateau Let yourself be surprised by a place full of surprises

A plateau that encompasses almost every type of marsh in the Northern Alps. It is home to over a hundred wetlands with a wide variety of surface areas and ecological types.

The Gavot plateau is home to numerous villages, including Champanges, Féternes, Larringes, Vinzier, Saint-Paul en Chablais, Bernex and Thollon-Les-Mémises.

The Plateau de Gavot is ideal for nature lovers, with many family hikes and walks to enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Geneva, on paths and small roads with very little traffic. For the more sporty, the Gavot plateau is also a starting point for sporting hikes such as the Dent d’Oche.

There are 17 mountain bike trails on the Gavot Plateau, mainly on small roads, offering sumptuous panoramas of the lake and a rich religious heritage.

Make your stay an experience

The Plateau de Gavot region offers a wide range of activities, both sporting and cultural. Whether with family or friends, you’re sure to find something to suit you between the lake and the mountains.

A protected natural site A breath of fresh air between lake and mountains

Because the flora and fauna of the Gavot plateau are so unexpectedly rich, a number of measures have been taken to preserve them.

The flattened dome of an ancient glacial moraine, a rural mountain landscape, the Gavot plateau encompasses almost every type of marsh in the Northern Alps: lakes, alkaline marshes, wet meadows, acidic peat bogs… Mainly located between 630 and 950 meters above sea level, it is the impluvium, or preferential infiltration zone, of Evian natural mineral water.

It is home to more than a hundred wetlands with a wide variety of surface areas and ecological types. The historic policy of wetland conservation pursued very early on by local players in a spirit of partnership has made this a unique and remarkably well-preserved site.

The biological diversity of the Pays de Gavot is remarkable, with a wealth of heritage species whose conservation is a territorial challenge and responsibility. In fact, the Ramsar site covers 27% of all plant species in Haute-Savoie and 9% of all species of interest, despite its small surface area, which represents just 0.72% of the département.
