Discover Chevenoz The gateway to the Abondance valley

Downstream from the Abondance valley, the village of Chevenoz is the gateway to the valley, equidistant from Châtel, Thonon and Evian. With a range of altitudes from 600 to 1,650m, the village consists of two large terraces, each overlooking one of the banks of the Dranse river. Pastures occupy the gentle slopes of these mountainsides, while forests and clearings complete the landscape.

Do you know the industrial heritage of Chevenoz?

Chevenoz has a strong history: the great invaders of the 5th century, descendants of the Celts and later the Burgons, used to graze their cattle in the mountain pastures. A pioneer in hydroelectricity, this now dynamic commune was at the forefront of renewable electricity.

A little-known industrial heritage, the Chevenoz power station was commissioned in 1898 to supply electricity to the town of Evian-les-Bains. The Dranse, which divides the village in two, is also renowned for its white-water activities.
