Discover Bonnevaux A village with a mountain soul

Set against an Alpine backdrop, the small village of Bonnevaux backs onto the slopes of the Col du Corbier. The mountain commune lies at the crossroads of the two major Chablais tourist valleys, the Vallée d’Aulps and the Vallée d’Abondance. According to historians, the name Bonnevaux comes from the Latin “bonna vallis”, meaning good valley or good passage to the valley, and the fiefdom of Bonnevaux has existed since at least the 12th century. The commune is typical of mountain hamlets, with several alpine pastures and traditional farmhouses in the heart of the main town.

Do you know Bonnevaux's heritage?

The Bonnevaux hydroelectric power station, known as the Pont de l’Eau Noire plant, is a recognized heritage site.

Commissioned in 1909, this hydroelectric power station is one of three in the Dranses region to generate renewable electricity from the river.
The Pays d’art et d’ histoire de Leman Mountains Explore organizes an occasional “Send the watts” tour of the Bonnevaux power station.

Green news

The hydropower generated by the Bioge plant (one of 3 on the Dranse, along with Bonnevaux) saves 83,000 tonnes/year of CO2.

Between cheese and hiking

From Bonnevaux, hiking trails take you to Mont Ouzon and its superb panorama. Don’t miss a visit to Alpage du Muret, a Bonnevaux producer of farmhouse ewe’s milk cheese.
