Vacheresse is a picturesque mountain village with a peaceful, unspoilt atmosphere. The name Vacheresse comes from the Latin vaccaria, or vacca (cow), which underlines the village’s agropastoral vocation. Vacheresse is indeed a land of mountain pastures, with the best-known being Sémy, Bise, Ubine, Darbon and many others.

    Vacheresse, the ideal place for hiking and nature lovers, boasts an exceptional natural environment. Many excursions are available to visitors: Lac de Darbon, nestled beneath superb peaks, is an accessible lake and a must-see in the valley. The authentic Ubine mountain pasture is well worth a visit. As for the Cornettes de Bise, this is an exceptional massif, rich in varied flora and fauna.

      Vacheresse has several hotels and accommodation facilities, and the Bise and Ubine refuges are possible stops on the GR5. You’ll even find a coffee-roasting workshop high up in the village. Montagne Cafés® roasts organic coffees in an eco-responsible and ethical way.
