Discover Novel An authentic hamlet

Novel is the smallest commune in Haute Savoie, surrounded by Franco-Swiss peaks such as Grammont and Jumelles. The commune of Novel remained isolated from its creation in the 12th century until the 1930s, when road construction linked it to Saint-Gingolph and the surrounding lakeside plains.

Want to take advantage of Novel's rich natural heritage?

Novel boasts a rich natural heritage of rivers, forests, mountain pastures and mountains. The Trépertuis mountain pasture is one of the jewels of Haute-Savoie pastoralism, and the Lac de Neuteu above the chalets of the same name offers a calm and soothing break. Numerous hiking trails are within easy reach, and you can reach Thollon-les-Mémises via the Col de Blanchard or Bernex via the Col de Neuva.

Green news

Just a reminder: when hiking, every gram counts on your back. But that doesn’t mean you can’t keep your garbage and take it back down to the valley…

Follow the GR5 through Novel

Above all, Novel is a must for itinerant hikers. The GR Balcons du Léman and GR5 long-distance hiking trails pass through the village and its Chapelle Notre Dame du Pardon, known as the “shepherds’ chapel”. Grande Randonnée trail number 5 on the French side, known as the GTA Grande Traversée des Alpes, links Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea on 620km of trails. The first stage takes you through Novel, and the pools of the Chalets de Neuteu, with their fresh, clear water, will delight GTA walkers.
